We’ve all heard the saying, “Is the glass half empty or half full?” Perspective, it can play such a pivotal role in everything we do.
Last night I had quite possibly the worst flight experience of my life as a returned home from a conference in New York. But what if I looked at it from a different perspective? What I mean to say is, I flew from New York City to Salt Lake City in just one evening!! Even though it wasn’t as pleasant as I had wished, my great-great grandfather would have had to take a week to make a similar journey. So, I guess it wasn’t that bad, now was it?
Recently, I stumbled across a video (see below) from Neil Pasricha of a TED talk he gave in Toronto in September 2010. Neil founded the blog 1000 Awesome Things following his divorce and also the loss of a close friend. He looks at the simple little things that can make life great and change our perspective. The blog took off (over 25 million visits), he won a ‘Webby’ for best blog, and wrote the international best seller “The Book of Awesome“.
Neil suggests the three A’s of Awesome are:
Attitude – You have two choices. 1. You can swirl and twirl in doom and gloom forever. Or 2. You can grieve and then face the future with sober eyes and move on. Attitude is all about choosing #2.
Awareness – Embrace your inner three-year-old. Look at the world through the eyes of a three-year-old. It will change your life as you see things for the ‘first time’.
Authenticity – Be you and be cool about it. Follow your heart and you will feel fulfilled.
Check out the book, watch the video below and find yourself looking at the glass half full!
