A Blogging Interview with Kelley Skar

On Wednesday, December 22, 2010 I sat down via twitter with Kelley Skar (@KelleySkar) to discuss blogging. Kelley is a REALTOR® with Sutton Partners Realty Group in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He has focused his blogging skills in the video arena.

Well, here’s the recap of #KSblogerview – I hope you enjoy it:

First and foremost you can check out Kelley’s blog at:

When did you first start blogging?

I started Vlog in May 2010, and my Blog in October 2010. Vlog is here http://goo.gl/9Yfgs Blog here http://goo.gl/WWtdt

How many blog posts have you written?

I have written 20, but have 98 video blogs since May.

What’s the craziest search term you’ve ever had bring someone to your blog?

Wish I had something weird and wacky to say here but nothing comes to mind!

Which blog post has had the most traffic for you?

Believe it or not a vlog I did on Pigeons has had the most “Views” We had a pigeon problem at our house this summer. Did research on how to get rid of them and then shared it in a vlog.

Which one was the most fun for you to write?

Vlog #50 with @Darinpersinger and @DanKellerMtg in Seattle, by far the most fun!

Being the great blogger that you are today… what would you go back and tell the rookie blogger you were?

Getting comfortable in front of the camera is never easy. “Relax and don’t think about who is watching!”

Which blog post has caused you the most grief?

A blog I wrote on why I charge what I charge. Had a good discussion going with some real differences of opinion.

What is your favorite blog to read besides your own?

@utahREpro @ProfessionalOne @PhxREGuy @ChrisBrogan @DaleChumbley @DarinPersinger @Techsavvyagent @Mashable Are my Faves!

What’s the best blogging tip or trick you’ve ever received (not given)?

On whether to go professional on the vlog or DIY, ”People Know a commercial when they see it!” From Ian Watt

What’s the biggest mistake you see bloggers making?

For the Vlog: Being angry on camera. Written; Not thinking about the content before they publish, no flow, or bad grammar.

What direction or innovation do you see coming this next year to the blogosphere?

I think everyone and their dog will be trying video. The ones that stick with it will see results. If there is no plan and a commitment they will not set themselves apart.

What would you say to someone who is sitting on the sidelines and waiting to get into the blogoshpere?

WTH are you waiting for? Get out there and do it! The REALTORS® that are blogging or vlogging will set themselves apart.

What is the most popular category and tag for your blog?

Industry matters seems to the most popular, is what I write about. Most popular tag is #realestate

Where do you usually find the inspiration for your blogs?

Other vloggers, bloggers, realestate publications, everyday life experiences. Our industry is FILLED with inspiration! Collaboration can be an amazing thing when looking for new and fresh ideas.

Is there anything you avoid like the plague when blogging?

My old Pappy told me about parties,”Don’t talk about money, politics or religion.” Same applies to my Blog/Vlog.

How long does your typical blog take you to write?

Vlogs are easier, usually about 20 minutes from start to upload, depending, written for me about 1 hour.

Alright… last question – what haven’t you blogged about yet, that you are dying to blog about?

Would LOVE to do some BIG interviews for my Vlog. @garyvee @ProfessionalOne @TechSavvyAgent to name a few.
