They Say Laughter Is The Best Medicine!
Early in the morning of Sunday, August 14, 2011 there was a rare occurrence in quiet Orem, Utah – we had a 3 alarm fire at the Pirate Island pizza/amusement restaurant. The place has become quite popular with kids in the last couple of years, but according to investigators they suspect someone wasn’t too happy with the place, as arson appears to be the cause of this fire that caused more than $75,000 in damages.
Sadly the place has been closed since, but today I drove by and saw that work was taking place on restoring/re-opening the kid haven. It wasn’t the work though that caught my eye… it was what the owner’s had put up just outside of the restaurant.
What do you do when life hands you lemons?
Well you make lemonade of course!
Taking a difficult and frustrating situation and adding just a bit of humor can often times make all the difference in the world!
Did the funny pirate fix anything burnt in the fire… NO. But it did show the resilient attitude of the owners and provided some humor for the community. I can tell you this much – it made my day, and I turned around to snap this photo to share with all of you!

I love those guys. Matt and Jim (the owners) are simply the best! The way they’ve responded to the fire does not surprise me one bit.
It really was something to see what they are doing in the face of adversity. I saw this, pulled over, snapped a few shots, and rushed back to write this blog! PS- showing homes to Cohan this weekend!
Nice…on both fronts!
Wow! That is an appealing slant.
